Developed in Java, Clean Shutdown is a feather-light application you can use to schedule your computer to power off after a specified time interval. It features straightforward options for accomplishing this task without any hassle.

Simple interface for scheduling PC shutdown

The app's packed in a clean and intuitive interface with visually appealing graphical elements. It consists of a small window that reveals the handful of options available.All you have to do is specify the number of minutes to pass until triggering the PC shutdown command automatically, and confirm it with the click of a button.

How it works

During this time, the window shows the number of minutes left until shutdown. From three minutes onward, the number turns red to indicate the critical state.The tool can be minimized to the taskbar to become non-intrusive and let you carry on with your regular PC activity while monitoring time.However, you should know that it doesn't notify you through visual or audio cues just before it's about to turn off the workstation, so you have to be quick enough to cancel the task if you change your mind, provided that you haven't forgotten about it.

No setup required, besides Java

It's not wrapped in an installer kit, so you can copy the downloaded files to a custom directory on the HDD or to a USB flash drive, in order to seamlessly launch it on any machine with as little effort as possible.Just keep in mind that Java Runtime must be installed. Other than that, Clean Shutdown doesn't create files on the disk or integrate new entries into your system registry.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't experienced any compatibility issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the software utility didn't freeze, crash or show error messages. It left a small footprint on system performance in our tests, since it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly.Although it doesn't come bundled with richer options or configuration settings, Clean Shutdown offers a simple solution for powering off your computer according to a specified number of minutes. Too bad that it hasn't received updates for a long time and remained in beta development stage.
