Overview

What is PowerResizer?

PowerResizer : Handle all windows on your desktop with hotkeys to reposition and resize them to organize your workspace in an efficient manner with this app

In depth

A closer look at PowerResizer

Working with a lot of active windows on the desktop can be a pain, especially if they’re all crowded inside a single monitor. Although modern Windows iterations introduced the snap feature for more comfort, better solutions come in the form of third-party applications, and PowerResizer is a suitable example here.

Mostly stays in the tray area

The application first needs to be installed so it can integrate itself into the operating system to be able to read window settings and attributes. Although there’s no built-in option to make it run with Windows so that it’s ready by the time you reach the desktop, there’s the possibility to manually add a shortcut to the system Startup folder to bypass this.On launch, the application minimizes to the tray area, with no notification to let you know it’s there. In fact, there isn’t even a main window to work with, and most operations are triggered through hotkey commands. The dedicated tray menu only holds some basic commands, and a general trigger function for the entire operation.

Check documentation for hotkey commands

It’s a pretty good idea to open up the ReadMe file to view related hotkey commands if you want the application to be of any use. Sadly, it can’t be directly accessed from the tray menu, so you need to manually navigate to the install location. You’re able to perform a decent variety of resize and reposition options. However, there are a few things you need to keep an eye out for, such as the target window to be active, and to have the Windows feature enable to leave content visible while dragging. You can only work with one window at a time to send it to different locations of the screen, or make it fit several preset size specifications.

On an ending note

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that PowerResizer comes with good intentions, but isn’t really prepared to tackle all difficulties you come across when managing multiple windows on your desktop. Working with one window at a time is rather disappointing, and in the end doesn’t really offer more than you find with the Windows Snap feature.
