Overview

What is DayNote?

DayNote : Set up simple, one-time tasks or recurrent ones with various time details, receive message notifications, and manage all tasks through a list view

In depth

A closer look at DayNote

Although it can remember all kinds of things that are not really important, your memory can’t always be trusted with the most important things, especially since the computer is there to help you out. Notes can be quite useful if you don’t want to miss any appointments, and applications like DayNote are sure to help you in this regard.

Sits mostly in the system tray

The setup process takes little of your time, with the possibility to check out the set of features within seconds. Don’t be scared if nothing shows up when running the application, because it gently goes to the system tray, so it doesn’t take up any precious desktop or taskbar space. Controls are managed from there, and windows only stay up to edit general details or add new tasks.Interacting with the tray icon brings up a new creation window, with a few fields that need to be filled in. A title represents the name of the task, with a description field that lets you write down all corresponding details, but with no customization options or possibility to add external files, or links for that matter.

Create one-time or recurrent tasks

What you do get to manage are time-related options, with the starting time set through a calendar and an input field for hour. Quick edit buttons let you add several minutes to the starting time, or even days, weeks, and months. Moreover, tasks can be made recurrent, with a drop-down menu to set frequency, and another value input field for increment.DayNote only shows up when the start time is due, with no other option to be notified in advance. What’s more, if you’re not at the computer, you might miss the notification, since there’s no sound alert, nor any option to add one. When notified, there’s the possibility to confirm the task, or edit it.A general list of all created tasks can be accessed from the tray icon. From here you can add new tasks, edit existing ones, or remove them. Keep in mind that accomplished tasks are automatically deleted, and there’s no history tracker, nor possibility to export log of events.

To sum it up

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that DayNote comes in handy for relatively simple tasks that don’t have considerable consequences if not done in time. The overall process of adding tasks and receiving alerts is pretty easy. However, it leaves more to be desired, with this simplicity having a negative impact on practicality, rather than enhancing it.
