myBoard : A port for Mac OS X Dashboard for Windows which enables users to organize, create and delete widgets in a semi-transparent layer
Developed as a port for the Mac OS X Dashboard for Windows, myBoard is a lightweight and simple-to-use software application which enables you to seamlessly bring up the Dashboard and organize widgets. It does not comprise rich features or customization settings, making it accessible to all types of users, regardless of their previous experience with such apps.
Quick setup and accessibility via the system tray area
The installation procedure is a fast and easy job which does not require special attention, since myBoard sports familiar options. It is automatically launched afterward, creating an icon in the system notifications area for quickly accessing the configuration panel and tinkering with its settings.
Easily configure settings for program activation
By default, myBoard can be activated by clicking the middle mouse button on the top left corner of the screen. However, it is possible to change the mouse button into anything else, along with the activation corner, or enable the tool when pressing a specific button on the keyboard instead.Once activated, myBoard dims the lights of the desktop and brings up the widgets, thus enabling you to re-arrange them in any way you see fit, delete, or recreate them with Visual Studio using C#, VB.NET and WBF. Help documentation is available, but we failed in our attempt to view it on our tests.
Evaluation and conclusion
The app does not put a strain on computer performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. No error dialogs popped up in our evaluation, and myBoard did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. Its response time was not very good, though. We must also take into account that myBoard has not been updated for a long time, so it may have compatibility issues with some operating systems.
