In depth
A closer look at IdentProtocol
IdentProtocol When an ident request is received, the service responds with the current user account and, optionally, the computer name. If more than one instance of the service is running at the same time, IdentProtocol works in conjunction with itself and requests are relayed correctly. Additionally, it is possible to configure the service to act independently or not work at all unless a certain program specified by the user is running.
