Almost no messages sent over the information superhighway are secure, but if you really want to at least add an extra layer of security, Crypto Encrypter can turn readable text into a random string of characters, unlocked only with a custom key.Before the application lets you take advantage of its features, you need to make sure that Java Runtime Environment is on your computer. With no installation required, you’re free to take it with you on a USB flash drive to use on other computers, without worrying that something bad happens, because registries are not modified.The visual design poses no accommodation problems whatsoever, thanks to a simple layout. Most of the space represents the text input area, while general functions are accessed from corresponding menus. Unfortunately, you can’t load any existing files, other than those already encrypted.

Lightweight and easy to use

Even though you can’t load any text files, using the copy and paste operation, or simply writing inside the text field isn’t that much of a hassle. Font can’t be customized, but you are able to modify the text size, at least for your own personal interest.The application keeps the algorithm it uses for itself, and you’re not able to choose a different one. Right before the process starts, a small prompt shows up to ask for a password, used as a key, and to access content later on. Saving directly encrypts to file, while the dedicated function doesn’t save the file, only showing content in the input text field.
