G.U. - UPX GUI represents a graphical interface for UPX, the popular command-line utility capable of packing and compressing various files, such as DLLs, DOS tools and Linux executables.It gives you the possibility to set the compression level and perform additional actions, such as creating backups.

Doesn't require installation

It's not necessary to go through installation since the packer is portable. The downloaded archive also contains UPX, the command-line. Just make sure that both files are in the same directory before firing up the GUI.This means that you can even copy the files to a thumb drive and effortlessly launch G.U. - UPX GUI on any PC to pack executables without setup. No new entries are added to the system registry.

Specify the file path to pack the item

The GUI consists of one window that lists all commands provided by G.U. - UPX GUI. You can begin by specifying the path to the file you want to process.Unfortunately, there is no file browser available and drag-and-drop isn't supported, so you have to type or paste the file path in the dedicated box.If you want to leave the settings unchanged, you can immediately proceed with the packing operation. Otherwise, you can specify the compression level.

Configure the compression level and other settings

Furthermore, you can instruct the tool to unpack the file if it was previously packed with UPX, don't display messages, forcefully apply compression on files suspicious for malware, use verbosity, and create backups. Additional commands can be written as arguments.Log details are shown on the bottom part of the window, where you can check out the name and full path to the file, file size, compression ratio, and format.

All things considered, G.U. - UPX GUI proves to be a decent graphical interface for the UPX command-line utility. However, it doesn't bring any new features to the table.
