Free System Traces Cleaner : Automatically scans and removes traces from Windows, Internet Explorer and some commonly used apps to free up space, letting users select the areas to clean
Free System Traces Cleaner is a Windows tool designed to automatically remove unnecessary files belonging to the operating system, web browsers and other applications, in order to declutter the hard disk and maybe even free up some valuable space.
Ad-supported application
Installing the program does not take long. Users should be a little careful when navigating the wizard stages, though, as Free System Traces Cleaner offers to download and install apps made by other developers, which it does not actually need to function normally. These components can be excluded from setup by switching to custom mode.
Classic interface with straightforward options
The software utility does not put emphasis on looks. Instead, it adopts a classic window with clear-cut options broken down into three categories: system traces, Internet Explorer, and other applications. The last panel is dedicated for app settings, where users can ask Free System Traces Cleaner to permanently delete data.
Remove Windows traces
As far as system traces are concerned, Free System Traces Cleaner looks into the MUI registry cache, recently used documents, Windows Prefetch and Error Reporting files, MRU registry history, Windows temporary folder, and current user temporary folder.
Remove IE and common apps' traces
When it comes to Internet Explorer, the tool handles the cache, typed URLs, cookies, DOM store cache, and history. Other applications targeted are Java (cache) along with Adobe Flash Player, Media Player, Wordpad and Paint (history). Apart from the fact that users may handpick the exact areas to clean, there are no other notable features available.Worth mentioning is that clicking the "Clean" button removes data from all three areas, not just the ones from the current tab. During this time, the app shows the currently scanned location. When it finishes, it reveals the total freed size.
Evaluation and conclusion
Unfortunately, Free System Traces Cleaner does not give users the possibility to examine scanning results before proceeding with file deletion. It offers support only for Internet Explorer, just a handful of applications, and few system areas.CPU and RAM consumption is minimal, while scanning and cleaning jobs are carried out quickly. We have not come across any stability problems during our evaluation, as Free System Traces Cleaner did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. However, users may resort to more powerful cleaning utilities with more flexible options, such as CCleaner.
