In depth

A closer look at Xpeon-Lock

Sure enough you need to provide your account password right before reaching the desktop, but leaving your computer unattended leaves room for others to snoop through your stuff. In case you really need to keep a bunch of files safe, Xpeon-Lock makes it possible to lock any folder on your computer with a custom password.

Lightweight and easy to use

First of all, the application can’t run if .NET Framework is missing from your computer, so go ahead and grab it. What’s more, you need to launch it with administrator privileges every time, even though your are logged in as an administrator already.Running it for the first time requires you to set a master password. Be sure to remember it because it’s the only way you can access the application later on. Several description tooltips show up to quickly get you up and running, as well as the options panel to select the folders you want to protect.

Folders lock themselves when closed

Although dropping target directories over the main window isn’t possible, the application does create a context menu entry for faster approach. There’s not really a limit to the number of items you can add, but each needs to be protected with its own password, because it’s not automatically secured based on the master key.The application stays in the tray area while used, with the possibility to make it run on Startup so it’s ready when reaching the desktop. Accessing a locked folder doesn’t open it until you provide the right password in the prompt which shows up. Sadly, there’s no possibility to set more restrictions when multiple failed attempts are made. Locking requires no effort and is automatically done when closing the folder.

In conclusion

To sum it up, Xpeon-Lock is sure to come in handy for protecting any type of content on your computer. Even though target folders remain in plain sight, accessing them can’t be done through any other means that providing the right password.
