A closer look at SIDCHG

SIDCHG is a command-line utility to modify local computer SID and computer name. It replaces current computer SID with new random SID. In addition, it changes the WSUS ID for Windows Updates, the Windows 8+ Device Identifier for Metro apps, and the encryption state, to preserve encrypted files and other encrypted stored information. With SIDCHG you'll be able to easily change the security identifier and the name of your PC. Change of computer SID risks data loss and system damage. Encrypted files and installed certificates will definitely be lost. Do not interrupt SID change in process!
