Crypt : Make sure only you have access to confidential files and folders by encrypting them with a solid algorithm in a fast, efficient process
Even though you have an antivirus application installed on your computer, files and folders on your computer are not completely safe. Chances are you need to keep prying eyes away from confidential documents, and this is where Crypt comes in handy, letting you secure nearly anything on your PC through solid encryption.
Sits in the tray area when not used
You’re able to take advantage of what the application has to offer shortly after installation is done. However, for things to work out, you need to make sure that your PC is fitted with .NET Framework.A compact main window shows up on launch, and a tray icon is also created. It’s the place you find it when minimizing, with no taskbar slots occupied, not even when on the desktop. You quickly get the hang of things because of the well-organized design, and proper description of buttons and functions. Both encryption and decryption are handled through the same window.
Fast encryption of files and folders
Unfortunately, dropping target items over the main window has no effect, but the browse dialog isn’t difficult to use. There’s the possibility to encrypt a single file, or the content of an entire folder. The latter choice also lets you specify depth of subfolders, and whether or not to run the process recursively. The application relies on the CryptoAPI algorithm to secure your files. A password needs to be provided, and it’s best to remember it because it’s the only way to recover content. Encrypted files are delivered in the same folder as input, with a dedicated extension. The original file is not removed though. Note that decryption automatically overwrites existing items without any prompts.
On an ending note
In conclusion, Crypt is a lightweight, but powerful tool you can use to keep others from snooping through private stuff. There’s only one algorithm to use, but the process takes little time and effort, with the possibility to encrypt either a single file, or the content of an entire folder.
