Inception is your typical encryption and decryption application that attempts to provide you with an easier approach to securing your communication sessions.It can encrypt both text and files and is fit for use in email messages, IM conversations and virtually any scenario that requires you to cipher the messages in order to protect your privacy.Inception is one solution if you’re ever in need of such an application, being able to encrypt and decrypt data in a speedy manner. However, it needs a few improvements mainly in usability, despite being simple in essence.It doesn’t need installation, which is an upside and it comes wrapped inside a very basic interface that normally would be an indicator of ease of use, but this is not the case here. The functions are expressed clearly, but the way the program interacts with the user leaves room for doubt.First and foremost, in order to encrypt a file, you need to provide it with the path to that item, since the application doesn’t sport the means to browse to it. The same goes for the decryption process. Although the developer specifies in the Readme file that drag and drop is supported, it didn’t work for us.Moreover, we couldn’t tell what encryption algorithm is used, but from the fact that it doesn’t require an encryption key, we can safely assume that it’s a rather simple one. Without an encryption key, the ciphered text is susceptible to all kinds of attacks, therefore your messages might be intercepted quickly by attackers.On an ending note, Inception has a long way to come until it reaches a level that satisfies users in all aspects. It needs a more appealing design, an enhanced level of usability and stronger encryption algorithms.
