Emotions Detector : Fun application that scans images and attempts to correctly identify emotions on any recognizable face, displaying its assessment in the form of a chart
There are lots of mobile applications that can recognize emotions in images, and this information can have plenty of uses if developers are imaginative enough. If you only want to have a bit of fun, however, you may be interested in this desktop utility.Emotions Detector is an open-source program that is capable of scanning images and identifying emotions. It can recognize several, and it lists results as percentages in the form of a chart.
Have some fun scanning photos or other images
While it is probably intended to be used with photos, there is nothing stopping you from loading any image that contains a recognizable human face, as the application should still be able to process it. If anything, it can be even more amusing. The program supports the JPG, PNG and BMP file formats, but you should make sure the aspect ratio is correct before loading them, as it is not possible to crop the images.
Detect emotions and view the results in a chart
Once an image has been processed, Emotions Detector displays the results in a chart, and you can hover over it with the cursor to view the exact percentages. The emotions are color coded, so they are quite easy to tell apart. For the most part, we found the application to be fairly accurate, though the quality of the source material is, of course, very important. You shouldn’t try processing images that contain multiple faces, however, as the program was not designed for this purpose.
Simple application that can be quite fun
When it comes down to it, Emotions Detector is a pretty basic piece of software, but does a good job of identifying emotions. It would have helped if it were possible to crop images, however, and the application cannot process images correctly if multiple faces are detected.
