Overview

What is JPasskeeper?

JPasskeeper : Platform independent password manager

In depth

A closer look at JPasskeeper

JPasskeeper is an application developed in Java, which gives you the possibility to store passwords and other important information in a safe environment. It uses symmetric 1024-bit encryption with cipher cascade AES-Serpent-Twofish-CAST6.

No setup required, besides Java

As long as you have Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer, you don't need to set up anything else. You can copy the downloaded files to a custom directory on the disk or to a removable storage unit, in order to directly run it on any PC with Java. It doesn't add new entries to the system registry.

Add multiple key entries

It's wrapped in a pretty simple interface with a plain appearance. However, it has a neatly structured layout that shouldn't impose any navigational difficulties.New entries can be added to the database by specifying the name, tags and data. It's possible to add as many entries as you want (provided that you have enough free disk space), edit their properties, or remove them from the database.

Save, email, import and export data

The database can be saved to file by indicating the output directory and file name, as well as send via email using POP3 or SMTP, in order to manage passwords from any location with Internet-enabled access. In addition, you can import data from JPasskeeper 3.x or CSV, export it to CSV, configure email accounts via Hotmail, Yahoo, GMX or a custom provider, set a backup email address and login password, delete spam messages, create multiple email profiles with different settings, as well as set or change the passphrase used to protect the database. Plus, you can modify the default backup directory.

Evaluation and conclusion

It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM. No errors popped up and it didn't hang or crash. All in all, JPasskeeper offers a simple solution for keeping passwords stored in a secure environment.
