Mouse Speeder : Increase or decrease mouse sensitivity while a user-defined key is pressed, with this lightweight, open-source piece of software
Many modern mice come with DPI switches or allow you to configure other buttons to perform this function, namely to quickly increase or decrease the sensitivity of your pointing device. If your mouse does not support this, you may wish to try an application like Mouse Speeder. It works by enabling you to instantly set the Windows cursor sensitivity to a different value while a certain key is pressed.
Alternative to dedicated mouse software
If your device’s manufacturer does not provide you with software that allows you to set up a DPI switch, this utility is a good alternative. Of course, it only changes the Windows sensitivity, but the effect is similar.Being able to change your mouse’s sensitivity on the fly can be useful in a number of situations, such as when precise movements are needed or when a large area needs to be selected.
Set up a preferred hotkey that can function as a sensitivity switch
Once you’ve launched the application, you will see the current mouse sensitivity on the left side of the window, and you can set the new value using the slider on the right. You can select pretty much any key on your keyboard to serve as your hotkey, though not all of them are supported, namely modifiers like Ctrl, Shift or Alt. After you’ve selected the key, make sure to also tick the Enable hotkey box.
Change mouse sensitivity with the press of a key
The application can be minimized once you have completed the configurations, as it will continue to register the selected hotkey even while running in the background. However, it would have been great if it were possible to send it to the system tray.In short, Mouse Speeder can be very helpful if you need a way to quickly increase or decrease your mouse’s sensitivity. It is a pretty basic utility, but it gets the job done and is very easy to configure.
