SAT Dictionary is a feather-light and portable application you can use to quickly look up words in an offline database with dictionary definitions and examples.It doesn't include complicated options or configuration settings, making it accessible to all types of users, even those not accustomed to such software.

Portable tool with a simple GUI

There is no installation kit involved. Instead, you can copy the downloaded files to a preferred folder on the disk or to a removable storage unit, in order to launch it on any computer with as little effort as possible.It doesn't need DLLs or other components to work properly, create files on the disk without your approval, or add new entries to the system registry.As far as the interface goes, the utility opts for a standard window that reveals the handful of options provided by SAT Dictionary, giving you an overview.

Look up word meanings in an offline dictionary

You can type or paste the word you're looking up, while keeping in mind that results are calculated and displayed in real time (as you type).In the following step, you can scroll the list with all possible matches and select a word while taking into account its describing word (e.g. verb, adjective, adverb, noun).

Find out definitions, examples, and other forms

After clicking on an entry in this list, you can find out its meaning, additional forms in different describing words (if any), along with examples applied in sentences.There are no other notable options provided by this piece of kit. Unfortunately, it doesn't implement additional options, such as copying information to the Clipboard, printing it, or exporting it to file. Moreover, there is no list that shows the complete dictionary database with all words and meanings.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't experienced any stability issues in our tests, since the tool didn't freeze, crash or indicate errors. It left a small footprint on system resources, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM.Although it hasn't been updated for a significant amount of time, SAT Dictionary offers a simple alternative to looking up words online when you don't have an active Internet connection. It's free for non-commercial use.
