GoGui provides a graphical interface for playing the Go game. Made with Java, the tool is not only a platform for playing Go, but also for exporting data. It comes in handy for practicing Go by analyzing moves in multiple games.To be able to use this application, you must have Java Runtime Environment installed. You can download an installer or portable editions, depending on your preference.

Practice Go by analyzing strategical moves

The software program is wrapped in a user-friendly interface, made from a simple and well-organized window, where you can start a new Go game right away. You are in control of both white and black stones, since there is no AI built into this program. Each turn is timed.As far as game settings are concerned, it's possible to change the board size, set a handicap level or edit game info when it comes to the player names, result, date, rules, Komi, and time allocated for each turn.

Control both white and black stones

If you're interested in a particular playing strategy, you can set up the white and black stones on many positions before proceeding with the game. There are also options for truncating the current node and all children nodes, deleting all moves and variations, finding comments, and showing move numbers on the stones.When it comes to extra tools bundled with GoGui, you can use a tree viewer, analyze commands, reattach a program with or without parameters, send files, and save commands. Bookmarks can be added and edited anytime. Once the Go strategy is ready, you can save files with the SGF or text position, LaTeX position or main variation, and PNG image. The PNG image can be also copied to the clipboard instead of exported to file.All aspects considered, GoGui provides an intuitive learning environment for Go players. It comes bundled with many practical options and configuration settings.
