Typing Stats is an application designed to monitor your actions when typing in any kind of program on the computer, in order to provide accurate statistics about your daily activity, including total words and characters, along with words per minute. It's especially useful for writers.

Setup, prerequisites, and interface

Installing this tool takes minimal time and effort, as there are no special options or third-party components bundled with the setup file. However, you must have .NET Framework installed, since it was developed with the aid of this platform.When it comes to the interface, Typing Stats adopts a standard .NET Framework form and doesn't put emphasis on graphical elements, yet it's quite easy to navigate.

View, copy and export typing stats

The utility continuously monitors your typing activity and collects this information to calculate the words and characters per minute, average characters per word, along with total words and characters. This report can be copied to the Clipboard or exported to a plain text document.Moreover, you can set the program to start minimized to the systray and to run by default on every Windows startup until further notice. Your settings are remembered in an .xml file on exit. These details are presented in the help documentation.

Evaluation and conclusion

It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM. On the other hand, we couldn't get it to work in some cases, as the statistics didn't make any records of typing tasks. On top of that, it showed an error dialog whenever we attempted to generate the TXT report.We are also keeping in mind that Typing Stats hasn't received updates for a long time. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself if you're looking to find out more information about your typing activity while carrying on with your normal tasks on the computer.
