DcmEcho is a lightweight and portable Windows application that enables you to send Echo and Ping commands. It does not integrate a wide array of options and customization settings, making it accessible even to users with less experience in networking tools.

Portability advantages

Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run. Another possibility is to save DcmEcho to a USB flash drive or similar removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.An important aspect worth mentioning is that it does not modify Windows registry settings or create extra files on the hard disk, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal.

Plain-looking interface with a few settings

The GUI is user-friendly, made from a small window with a plain and simple structure, where you can specify the DICOM SCP address, AE title and port number, as well as click a couple of buttons to send either a Ping or Echo command. There are no other notable options provided by this piece of software.

Evaluation and conclusion

The tool does not put a strain on machine performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and worked well in our tests, without causing Windows to hang, crash or pop up error messages. On the other hand, the tool has not been updated for a long time and it comes packed with a limited set of features. Nevertheless, DcmEcho proves to be a straightforward application for sending Echo and Ping commands to another host.
