Overview

What is kHelp?

kHelp : Easily analyze the content of specially formatted text files which include chapter structures and sections in an intuitive, portable environment

In depth

A closer look at kHelp

Text documents can hold different types of content and come under a variety of formats. Some are based on a constant string of pages, while others can be structured in chapters and sections. For instance, kHelp comes as a text viewing tool for rich text files written in a particular style to enable content navigation with ease.

Interface and perks of portability

No installation is required to make the application run, so you can go ahead and launch it right after download is done. As such, it’s easy to carry around on a thumb drive to always have this particular reader at hand. System registries are not affected during runtime, so the target PC’s health status remains intact. The visual design can feel a little ambiguous at first, although it’s not crowded or fitted with any confusing elements. One half of the main window is dedicated to the text content, while the other lets you easily navigate through chapters in a tree list menu. Bookmarks area easily accessed from the upper toolbar, and there’s even a search tool to easily locate strings of interest.

Can only be used as a text viewer

Although the application can work with different types of text files, including TXT and RTF, you’re not able to properly explore content unless it’s written in a particular code. This means the application is of little to no use for simply analyzing plain text files. Luckily, there’s a rich documentation file which makes it clear how writing needs to be done.Editing is not possible within the main window, except to copy text selection. Bookmarks are added at the press of a button, and there’s an additional note function to keep important tabs on particular text files.

To sum it up

In conclusion, kHelp doesn’t really enhance computer use unless you’re already in the possession of specially edited text files. Unfortunately, there are no built-in edit options to modify existing files, and it can take quite a bit of effort to build one, even through regular, default text editors.
