Simple information usually comes stored inside plain text files, which can be easily edited through Windows default tools. Depending on the supported characters and formatting options, plain text can become rich text, and, in this regard, Notepad Plus wants to offer a comfortable edit environment for such files.

Can only edit RTF files

There’s one thing you need to consider before you get the chance to see what the application is all about, and that’s whether or not .NET Framework is installed on your PC. The program automatically shows up on your screen right after setup. The visual design is nothing to make it stand out from the crowd, but accommodation is a walk in the park.Unfortunately, the application is only capable of processing RTF files, and this comes as the only choice for both import and export options. Multiple files can be processed at a time, but this needs to be done in separate instances, because of the lack of tab support.

Poor set of editing options

Edit operations only include some basics, such as undo and redo, copy, cut, paste, select, and clear. It also includes a set of formatting options, thus making it possible to change the color of the text, as well as attributes, font style, and other related options. Sadly, format options apply to the entire text, with no option to highlight particular strings.The edit space is pretty simple and mostly dedicated to your text. You can easily toggle text wrapping. However, there are no other info fields, such as a word or at least a character counter, not to mention status to display caret position in the document.

In conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Notepad Plus leaves much to be desired overall. It can only process RTF files, even as a means of import. As far as editing goes, there’s nothing more to offer than what Windows already does by default through its simple editors.
