Textpad : A lightweight text editing application with syntax highlight, word count, fullscreen mode and printing capabilities to meet your needs
Built in Qt, Textpad is a simple text editor that comes packed with basic options to help you create and autosave notes, todo lists, tasks, upcoming meetings and events, or other important events. It can be especially used by those less experienced with word processors, as well as people looking for a straightforward text editing app with no complicated features.
Simple setup and interface
Available in German, the setup operation takes minimal time and effort, thanks to the fact that there are no unfamiliar options, prerequisite software tools, or third-party offers involved.Once launched, the program creates an icon in the system tray area to facilitate quick access to its options while letting you carry out your normal desktop activities without any interruptions.
Remembers written text on exit
It shows a small frame on the screen with a gray background, similar to a physical notepad, where you can type or paste text, cut, copy, paste, delete and select all text, as well as undo and redo your actions by opening the right-click menu. The contents are automatically remembered by the software app on exit. Apart from the fact that keyboard shortcuts are supported, there are no other aspects worth mentioning.
Evaluation and conclusion
It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash. Although it hasn't been updated for a long time, Textpad ran smoothly on newer Windows editions, without showing signs of compatibility issues. On the other hand, it doesn't contain richer options or configuration settings. For example, it's not possible to save text to files. Nevertheless, Textpad is free and easy to use by anyone.
