In depth
A closer look at OSD
Early generation monitors did not come with OSD (on screen display) capabilities of the modern devices and there was little room for configuring them. The OSD feature permits the device to show an image on top of the regular display and it is used for providing access to various customization settings for the device. It may be used for anything from showing the volume level or contrast and brightness intensity to full blown menus that allow the user to configure the device to suit their needs, which is the case for modern television sets.
