In depth
A closer look at RMI2MID
RMI2MID is a command-line application designed to convert RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format) files into SMF (Standard Midi Format). These include codes for musical events with the start of a note, pitch, volume, length, and musical attributes, like vibrato. RMI are Midi files specific to Microsoft, which can only be played by Windows' proprietary media player. Meanwhile, RIFF files are uncompressed archives with multimedia information. By transforming a RMI file into SMF, it's possible to lift this restriction. The usage syntax is rmi2mid file.rmi [file.mid]. All you have to do is indicate the source file and format, along with the preferred name of the output file, in addition to its file extension. The encoding procedure is performed immediately.
