A closer look at StopChop
The StopChop application will record at CD quality (by default), allocating a large circular buffer. As soon as you press ENTER, it switches to play mode, where you can view the last so many minutes recorded. In the play mode, you can crop the sound, fade the end, remove silence, and save the sound. To crop, move the mouse or arrow keys, then press ',' and '.' to set the respective marker. Play the sound using SPACE BAR, Home or End keys. Once finished, I like to convert the WAV to FLAC, MP3, or OGG using a separate utility.
