AudioPlayer is a free, open-source and lightweight piece of software developed in Java, which provides you with a simple means of playing audio files.It's designed for users looking for a simple and straightforward audio player without having to worry about complicated options. The tool's also capable of loading URL streams.

No setup required, besides Java

Suffice it to say, Java must be installed on the computer to get this utility up and running, since it was developed using this programming language.It's packed into a single executable .jar file that can be put anyplace on the local disk or a portable storage unit to effortlessly launch it on any computer with Java. It doesn't insert new entries into the Windows registry or create new files or folders on the computer.

Play local audio tracks or load URL streams

The interface is based on a small, horizontal window that contains only four buttons. An audio track can be located and opened with the help of the built-in file browser, or a URL can be typed or pasted to load the corresponding stream. You can check out the current playing position, along with the file name and extension. Playback can be stopped anytime.

Where it falls short

Unfortunately, AudioPlayer is not explicit concerning the supported file types. It worked with MP3 files in our tests. Aside from that, it implements a sparse set of features, even if it strives to be a straightforward audio player. For instance, it doesn't support playlists and other controls, such as seeking positions, nor does it give you the possibility to adjust the volume level or loop the track.

Finally

The software application used a minimal amount of CPU and RAM, so AudioPlayer is definitely feather-light. However, that's not enough to become a go-to audio player.
