In depth
A closer look at BDX
Making music on a computer has some benefits. For instance, effect racks, and other types of components can easily be found online, without the need to spend any money on complex hardware components. Among others, BDX provides a simple set of knobs with which to bass drum into projects. BDX is not a stand-alone application, and needs to be integrated into energyXT, or other similar VST host programs. Audio input is grabbed in real time, synthesizing it to sound as if coming from an actual bass drum. Multiple instances of the plugin can be loaded at a time, which helps create a greater variety of effects. Sure enough, routing needs to be carefully done. All effects are handled through dedicated knobs, with an additional adjuster for volume level, so multiple instances don’t overlap, while also keeping original input clean.
