A closer look at Norton Ghost

Norton Ghost works by creating a snapshot image of a PC's hard drive. The image can then be simultaneously copied to any number of PCs, thereby creating completely identical installations.

Norton Ghost offers a choice of GUI or batch mode, multicasting, automated partition sizing, image compression, automatic CRC checking (to protect against corruption), password protection, disaster recovery (by recovering files from images), powerful FDISKing and FORMATing, and image file management. It can convert FAT 16 partitions to FAT 32.

In addition, a unique security identifier (SID) is created for each NT workstation and server.
