It is implemented as a CGI application which uses TCP/IP to communicate with a partner, server application which captures the image from the camera. WebCam can also perform as an HTTP image server, serving video images from a capture device without the need to configure any CGI programs or have any other Web server.

Other features of WebCam include: remote administration, automated FTP uploading, server push capabilities for transmitting movies, thumbnail generation, AVI capture support, the ability to display captions, Java applet support, and more. WebCam works with any Video for Windows compatible camera including the Connectix Quickcam.
