PackRat : Create entries, and edit and manage personal information saved into tables with the help of this compact, minimalist personal information manager
PackRat is a small Windows application designed specifically for helping you store personal information about contacts, accounts, and other details in a database. This is a Java-based program so you need to have the working environment installed on your computer.
Portable running mode
You can gain access to the tool’s GUI by running the executable file because there’s no installation included in the process. What’s more, you can run it without administrative privileges. The utility does not leave entries in the Windows registry so you can get rid of it using a simple deletion task. PackRat can also be dropped on USB flash drives or other portable devices so you can have it with you all the time.
Simple looks
PackRat gives you the possibility to store personal information in the database by simply typing in data directly in the main window or pasting it from the clipboard. In addition, you are allowed to copy the selected text to the clipboard and transfer it to other third-party apps. The text can be written on multiple lines. The entries are saved into a table. You can change the background color of each line, delete records from the database, perform searches throughout the entire entries, as well as import/export text from/to CSV file format.Tests have shown that PackRat carries out a task quickly and without errors. It does not eat up a lot of CPU and memory resources so the overall performance of the computer is not hampered.
Bottom line
All things considered, PackRat delivers a simplistic software solution for helping you manage personal data, and is suitable especially for less experienced users. It does not come with support for advanced features, such as automatic backup mode, date/time stamps, and filters by date, just to name a few suggestions.
