Numerous Shareware and Freeware programs, such as CuteFTP, Go!Zilla, GetRight, and NetVampire are sponsored by banner ads. They use a system provided by the Aureate firm.

The trouble is that these DLLs hook onto your browser and initiate hidden connections to Aureate servers whenever you run your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator), and do not stop even if you uninstall Aureate-related files.
