Overview

What is TipCase File Splitter?

TipCase File Splitter : Effortlessly split large files in multiple chunks for better distribution on small drives, with options to pick target chunk size and join them together when needed

In depth

A closer look at TipCase File Splitter

Some ten years ago, you had to carefully manage disk space, and moving files around wasn’t as easy as uploading to specialized services. Files had to be split to fit on multiple disks, and there are various applications like TipCase File Splitter that can help you perform such operations even today.

Visual design and portability perks

The application comes with several advantages, and the first one you stumble upon is portability. This means you don’t have to go through a setup process to make it work, with the possibility to carry it around on a USB flash drive and use on other PCs as well. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about affecting the target PC’s health status, because registries are not tampered with.On the visual side of things, the application presents all of its features in a pretty compact main window that poses no accommodation problems whatsoever. A couple of fields let you specify source and destination, while the rest of the space is fitted with type of operation you want to perform, and general task info.

Far from being a pro

TipCase File Splitter can target any kind of file, but you need to rely on the built-in browse dialog to select it, because drag and drop has no effect. The same can be said about the destination, but be sure to select an empty directory, because you can end up with well over a hundred chunks. You can either split or join files together, but the second part only works if you already split a large file into multiple parts. Unfortunately, the application doesn't let you specify the target size of a chunk, but lets you select from a few choices, which sadly range from 0.8 MB to 1.4. This means that you get ten files out of a 14 MB item.

In conclusion

Bottom line is that disk space is less of a concern, but it doesn’t mean that working with large files is comfortable or easy. Neither is handling an abundance of files, but distribution is done easier this way. Sadly, TipCase File Splitter doesn’t bring anything new on the block, while the limited split size options have a considerable impact on overall practicality.
