A closer look at Virtual Sampler

The program lets you use your own sampled sounds as MIDI instruments, even if your soundcard does not have "wavetable" RAM. It offers most of the functions of hardware samplers, and integrates creation, editing, and management tools for sounds and sound banks. It even includes a MIDI sequencer and an FM synthesizer. Most effects and settings have real-time controls (but not the synthesizer).

Sound banks are limited only by your hard disk memory (not by available sound card RAM), so you can likely include all of your favorite instruments into one huge, convenient bank. Sound banks are accessible from any MIDI sequencer (even after closing the program) via a virtual device driver.

Virtual Sampler natively supports the advanced hardware of the Sound Blaster Live! (including EAX features) and Dream9407-DSP based cards (such as, TerraTec EWS64, Guillemot MaxiSound, Isis, and Hoontech SoundTrack). It uses plug-ins (Cubase VST and DirectX), skins, and files in WAV, SF2, TTI, and 94I formats. You can import Akai CD-ROMs (if you have an ASPI driver).
