is a fractal music creation program designed to generate random MIDI music.
In depth
A closer look at Oblivion
You select up to six MIDI instrument voices (which together constitute one of six quickly selectable "moods"), one of 16 scales (such as Major, Chromatic, or Oriental), a key, and a tempo. The program generates 16 sections of music per composition. You can set the 16 "seeds" (integer starting points for the randomization process) that the program uses to generate these 16 equal-length composition sections. Each unique seed always generates the same pattern, so when you find one that sounds good, you can repeat it in desired sections. Each of the 16 sections also has a "Transpose" control that lets you scale the section up or down by 7 notes. The program gives you some control over the length of the sections (as a whole, not individually), the length of notes, sustain, which of 5 octaves to use, and more. When done composing, Oblivion can save your masterpieces as standard format MID files that are royalty free and easily compact enough to send to your friends as e-mail attachments or to use as background audio on Web pages.
