A closer look at Locator
The program allows unlimited ticks per quarter-note bandwidth for standard MIDI files. It reads SMF0 and SMF1 files, and supports Karaoke MIDI files with edit and display functions for text and "bouncing ball" animation.
Locator contains a virtual MIDI keyboard and a MIDI mixer for recording MIDI files even if no real MIDI keyboard is available. It also contains a full wave editor with Direct-X plug-in interface for editing 16-bit WAV files.
The program uses "WaveOn" events (like "Note On" events) to "trigger" and play WAV files within a MIDI sequence at any position. A pitch (stretch) factor can be assigned for pitching the playback of the WAV to the desired destination pitch. An internal 32-bit stereo interpolating rendering engine lets you build 16-bit stereo WAV streams that contain the whole song (or tracks or sections).
Locator examines the Note On events of the MIDI file and replaces them by WaveOn events, which you then have to map in the "instrument group manager" to WAV files. It places the result of all WaveOn events in the WAV stream at the correct pitch and time position.
Locator does not contain samples or "instrument banks", so you have to provide the WaveOn event's underlying WAV files (instrument samples).
