Icecast is a free server that was inspired by Nullsoft's SHOUTcast server. It allows you to broadcast an audio stream to as many people as your bandwidth can support. It is compatible with WinAMP (Complete Version); you can use Winamp to send encoded streams as well as stream music from Icecast. Icecast can also use the yp.shoutcast.com directory services and adds the ability to use other directory services.

Features of Icecast include: the ability to send multiple streams from a single server, powerful administration tools, and support for meta-data streaming (a method that displays information about a stream without corrupting or interfering with the music data).
