Smart SWF Converter is a simple-to-use Windows application designed to turn Flash video clips (SWF files) into other formats. It supports AVI, WMV, MP4, MPG, MOV, 3GP, FLV and ASF, and can also prepare videos for playback on iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, Zune and PSP devices.

Hassle-free installation and intuitive GUI

The setup procedure does not take a long time to finish. As far as the interface goes, Smart SWF Converter sticks to a classical window with an intuitive structure, where all you have to do is follow a few simple steps to immediately convert SWFs.The clips can be loaded into the main frame with the help of the file browser or folder view. The tool is also capable of reading data from URL or browser history.

Change audio and video settings

Apart from specifying the output format and destination, it is possible to configure audio and video parameters when it comes to the codec, bit rate, size, frame rate, aspect ratio, channel mode, and sample rate. Unfortunately, the tool does not implement options for creating and saving profiles with personalized media properties. On the other hand, it lets you preview the SWF in a built-in media player and crop areas.

Performance and conclusion

We have not come across any issues during our tests, as Smart SWF Converter did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. However, the time it takes to finish a conversion task equals the SWF duration. On top of that, it plays the clip during conversion, so users cannot carry on with normal activity on the PC during this time. It is possible to stop conversion and finish the project as it is, though (i.e. video trimming). The quality of the output clips is quite good. All in all, Smart SWF Converter serves its purpose and comprises a set of handy features.
