File Splitter

File Splitter is a tiny and portable application that enables you to cut files into smaller pieces and then merge them back together. It features intuitive options that make it accessible to all types of users, even those less experienced with such software.

Portable tool with a simple GUI

The entire program's wrapped in a single .exe file that you can save to a custom location on the HDD or copy to a removable storage unit, in order to seamlessly run it on any computer without previous setup. It doesn't need any DLLs to work, create other files on the disk without your permission, or change Windows registry settings.It's packed in a rudimentary-looking interface made from a large window with a minimalistic appearance, where you can use the file browser to point out the file you're attempting to join or split.

Easily split and merge files

It's possible to cut files into equally sized parts by specifying the number of pieces or the part size (kilobytes). The new items are auto-created in the same location as the source file and they get the part number attached to the filename, along with the .fs format.The first part has the .fso format and must be specified in File Splitter for the merging operation, which is automatically performed as long as all remaining parts are in the same directory as the first file. The original file is reconstructed and gets the "merged" label attached to its name.

Evaluation and conclusion

It worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error messages. Split and merge jobs were carried out rapidly while File Splitter remained light on system resources consumption. Although it looks like an unfinished project, the utility gets the job done and can be easily used.
