Spelling Bee : Spelling trainer for children, which doesn't require installation and features a built-in dictionary and text-to-speech tool using the Microsoft Anna voice
Spelling Bee is an ultra-simplistic and portable piece of software designed for children who want to improve their spelling abilities. It features a built-in dictionary accompanied by a text-to-speech tool, and it also lets you throw in custom words to the mix.
No setup necessary
Installation is not required, which means that you can save Spelling Bee anywhere on the hard disk and just click the executable to launch it. Otherwise, you can copy it to a removable storage unit (like a pen drive) to directly run it on any PC effortlessly and without previously installing anything.Worth taking into account is that it does not alter Windows registry settings or create extra files on the disk without your permission, so it doesn't leave behind any traces after its removal.
Simple interface with intuitive options
The GUI is represented by a standard window that doesn't put emphasis on looks, yet it is simple to navigate. You can explore the dictionary and ask the tool to pronounce any word using the Microsoft Anna voice, change the voice, look up word definitions, write custom text to pronounce, as well as adjust the volume or mute it.
Evaluation and conclusion
The software application worked smoothly throughout our evaluation, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or pop up error messages. Its impact on the overall performance is minimal, since it needs low CPU and RAM to work properly.Although it is not the most resourceful spelling application out there, Spelling Bee is simple to use and effective.
