FKeys : Set custom commands to the keyboard F buttons, ranging from launching applications, regular files, opening web pages, or sending emails
Every keyboard is fitted with function keys, which are those 12 upper buttons you seldom use. However, different types of keyboard come with dedicated functions assigned, but you can also customize them. For this to be possible, you need to rely on specialized applications like FKeys, which might just bring a bit more practicality to your tasks.
Customize the keyboard F keys
The application comes with several preset examples to give you an idea of what it can do for you. Not all keys are fitted with functions though, and you can also remove existing entries. When not directly used, you can minimize it to the tray area. In fact, the window’s only purpose on the desktop is key configuration. On the bright side of things, the application overrides any other assigned controls to the F keys, just so no errors occur. What’s more, custom functions are only usable while the application is running, just in case you also use the default assigned commands, or rely on custom ones for particular tasks.
Assign programs, web pages, emails, and more
There’s a great deal of liberty when it comes to assigning functions. These range from simply launching programs, to opening up the default email program, already fitted with a target address. It’s also possible to have the web browser launched with a custom web page, thus saving some time.Note, however, that the application isn’t made to run on startup, and there’s no built-in function to enable this. On the other hand, you can bypass this inconvenience by manually placing a shortcut in the system Startup folder. Just to be more practical, the application comes with an option which minimizes it to the tray area on start.
A few last words
In conclusion, FKeys is a reliable application which can bring more functionality to your keyboard and greatly enhance your tasks. Multiple functions can be assigned to any of the F keys, and doesn’t create any compatibility errors with existing configurations.
