Winrtgen represents a graphical interface for the Rainbow Table generator (RT format). It offers support for several signatures, including MD-4, MD-5, FastLM, SHA-256, ORACLE, and CiscoPIX, allowing users to create a large table database for decrypting complex passwords.This is a portable tool, so installation is not a prerequisite.

You can drop the executable file somewhere on the hard disk and click it to run.As an alternative, you can save Rainbow Tables Generator to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort.What's more, the Windows registry does not get new entries, and files are not left behind on the hard disk after program removal.The interface is made from a standard window with a plain layout, where you can add as many tables as you want with different parameters to generate multiples hashes simultaneously.

So, you can specify the hash type, minimum and maximum length, index number, chain length and count, along with the number of tables. It is possible to select a predefined character set or edit the file, as well as preview the characters in Rainbow Tables Generator's panel.Plus, you can view table properties (key space, disk space, success probability) and run benchmarks to test the hash and speed speed, table and total pre-computation time, and maximum cryptanalysis time.
Once the application starts generating hashes, it creates a file with the results in the same directory, with the LST format.A task may take a long time to finish, depending on the parameters you set up. However, Winrtgen uses low CPU and RAM, and lets you carry on with your normal activity, since it can be minimized to the taskbar. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. Although it has not been updated for a long time, Winrtgen works smoothly on newer operating systems.

Rainbow table

A rainbow table is a precomputed table for reversing cryptographic hash functions, usually for cracking password hashes. Tables are usually used in recovering the plain text password, up to a certain length consisting of a limited set of characters. It is a practical example of a space-time trade off, using more computer processing time at the cost of less storage when calculating a hash on every attempt, or less processing time and more storage when compared to a simple lookup table with one entry per hash. Use of a key derivation function that employ a salt makes this attack infeasible.

Make Rainbow Table

There are many tools that create a rainbow table and there are many rainbow tables already available on the internet.Fortunately, Cain comes with a tool called winrtgen, which is located in its own folder in the installation.

After run winrtgen follow the instruction to create a rainbow table

Start winrtgen
Run winrtgen to create rainbow tables
Click on Add table at bottom –left corner
Select hashes type minimum and maximum length of password
Select charset option
winrtgen available option
Click on OK
Again OK
