It comes in handy especially when you need to capture essential parts from your projects, favorite scenes from movies, or other important work materials.Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry.You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to take screenshots on the breeze, without having to go through installation steps.It runs quietly in the system tray until called upon when it reveals only a few configuration settings.The program gives you the possibility to take a screenshot in a full screen mode, or capture a user-defined area of the screen or an active window. Additionally, you are allowed to capture the entire screen and save it as an animated GIF file.You can carry out the process using hotkeys, reassign the hotkeys, and save the image to the clipboard for pasting it into other third-party utilities or export the screenshot to PNG, BMP, or JPG file format.Additionally, the tool lets you specify the filename, add the date and time stamp and current user name to the filename, pick the target location, play a sound notification at the end of the task, and show a popup window when the job is finished.Last but not least, you can run the tool at Windows startup, and make the utility automatically take screenshots at a user-defined time.During our testing we have noticed that the tool carries out a task quickly, provides very good output results, and no errors showed up throughout the entire process. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer is not burdened.All in all, ShotGenius offers a handy set of functions for helping you take screenshots using custom hotkeys. Its overall simplicity makes it an ideal app for rookies but it cannot compete with other powerful utilities on the market, as it lacks support for editing capabilities.
