High latency can be indicative of network issues, and it is especially bad for online gamers who rely on a stable Internet connection. However, monitoring your ping can be difficult without a specialized utility.TrayPing is a small application specifically designed for League of Legends players, but which can be helpful for other users as well. It runs ping tests continuously and displays the results in the system tray.
Simple ping tool that can be very useful for LoL players
From the main window, you can select the server you wish to ping. There are two default options, namely OpenDNS and the NA League of Legends server. Unfortunately, no other LoL servers are available.Alternatively, you can just enter a custom IP you want to check. However, we noticed that the address is not saved when shutting down the program, which is not ideal.
Unobtrusive ping checker that offers few customization options
Once you’ve selected the preferred server, you can just minimize the application to the system tray. The ping value will be displayed in the tray icon, using either a green, orange or red font, based on the quality of the connection. If the ping is too high, a simple “H” will be displayed using a red font. You can change the default ping ranges, which determine whether values are displayed in green, orange or red. Sadly, though, you cannot alter the check interval.
Not the most advanced ping tool, but LoL players may find it useful
All in all, TrayPing offers a fairly limited set of features, but it can be a good choice for North American League of Legends players. It makes it easy to check your ping to the NA server, but other regions are not supported, and no other noteworthy features are included.
