It's a free alternative program for creating 3d images and models that can be used to create animations from these designs too. Ppit is written in java so one advantage is that it can run on any operating system. In the standard version the subdivision surface based modelling tools skeleton based animation and a graphical language for creating procedural textures and materials are included. Functionalities of the program can be increased by plugins. It counts with very interesting add-ons that will let you design plants and trees, vector render or translators to export files as many different formats. Creations can be saved as a jpeg png and tiff animations as quicktime animations.
