Lightning runs as an icon in your System Tray. A single click brings up a menu that lets you quickly perform Outlook chores, including creating new mail messages, appointments, tasks, meeting requests, task requests, contacts, journal entries and notes. You can also jump quickly to your Inbox or view today's calendar. Other menu entries show you today's daily summary, and allow you to assign items to contacts or categories.

Aside from the Taskbar menu, Lightning offers several additional ways to improve your productivity. For example, you can instantly look up contacts, enter appointments and tasks in plain English, access shared MS Exchange folders, automatically journal documents and files, jump to any Outlook folder, and jump to any date in Outlook's Calendar view.
