The firewall feature has three levels of security to choose from: low, medium, and high. These settings determine how strong you want the firewall and include rules for what to allow and what to block. The firewall can also be manually configured by the user to allow specific IP addresses, ports used, and more.

The firewall works in conjunction with the anti-virus feature. When the firewall allows data to enter your computer the anti virus scans the data for malicious code before anything is downloaded onto the PC.

Anti-virus protection Norton Anti Virus 2000 is included and is fully integrated with Norton Internet Security 2000. Complete virus protection scans e-mail, detects and repairs compressed files, performs task-based scans on specified folders and files, AutoProtects, and performs all other NAV 2000 functions, including Live Update.

While surfing the Net Norton Internet Security 2000 blocks your personal information from being sent to web sites. It can be configured to prompt you before accepting cookies, prevent your PC from sending your social security number, credit card number or any other sensitive personal information. Also blocked are your browser version, email address, and info about the last web site you visited.

Norton Internet Security 2000 can be set up to keep children from viewing inappropriate content on the Internet. There are two settings: one for young children the other for older children. The young children setting allows you to input specific urls for a child to visit. They will not be able to go to any site that a url hasn't been provided for. For older children, there are categories for you to choose from. This allows more independence but will keep them from going to sites that do not fall into the categories. There may be applications on your PC that you don't want your children using, such as instant messaging or online games. Norton Internet Security 2000 can be set so that certain applications are disabled when a PC is used by a child.

Internet Security 2000 supports multiple users so that if a PC is shared by a number of different people, it can be customized for each user depending on what is deemed appropriate by the administer (i.e. the parents).
