It also returns a user-configurable status through error level, letting batch programs take action based on whether two files are the same or different. Options let you control how blank lines, tabs, and strings of blanks are treated and whether A-Z are the same as a-z or different.
CMP lets you specify a line width for comparison, as well as a number of lines for look-ahead. This lets you use available memory most efficiently. You can store often-used options in an environment variable instead of typing them on the command line every time.
Two versions are included: a 32-bit version that runs in a DOS box under Windows and supports long filenames, and a 16-bit version that runs in DOS 2.x and above.
