is a free Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) development kit.
CORBA is an emerging open distributed object computing infrastructure being standardized by the Object Management Group (OMG). It is an architecture neutral, object oriented client-server solution. With CORBA you can abstract an object by its services and publish these using the IDL (Interface Definition Language). A client can then connect to and use these services. The Object Request Broker (ORB) is the middleware that establishes the client-server relationships between objects. You can write the client and server in a number of programming languages including C, C++, Java, Ada, Smalltalk and COBOL.
Engine Room CORBA includes a fully functional IDL compiler which produces client and server stubs in the C, C++ and Java languages. The ORB source code and examples are included. The ORBs are interoperable with other vendor's ORBs, including: ORBacus, Visibroker, and the ORBs supplied with JDK1.2 and Netscape Communicator.
Engine Room CORBA can be ported to Windows 95/NT (Borland C++ and Visual C++), Solaris and LINUX.
