What is Firestorm?

is a forest-fire simulation program using firecrews and air tankers to fight forest-fires in a real-time environment.

In depth

A closer look at Firestorm

Command four ground crews, two air tankers and a helitack to fight wildland fires in four different areas (Northwest, Oakland Hills, Malibu and Yellowstone) each representing 180,000 acres of woodlands, mountains, meadows and urban interface. Each area contains roads, rivers, lakes and structures.

The four ground crews can be dispatched to the fire scene via roads or overland and fight the fire by cutting firelines, setting backfires and burnouts (firing out). The two air tankers can be dispatched from airfields to make retardant drops on the firelines and the helitack can be directed to a water pickup point and the to the firelines to make water drops. Air tankers and the helitack can be redirected to new drop zones while in flight. You can select or randomize the start locations of up to 5 fires, which are affected by wind conditions, humidity and fuel type.
