It can track thousands of daily quotes for stocks, funds, indexes, futures, or options, with very reasonable daily download times. Historical data is accumulated by daily downloads using customized files called quotelists (QTL files). The historical quotes are accumulated in text files (DAY files) which are then read and displayed graphically to produce historical plots. The plots can be viewed over selectable timescales, and can be analyzed using powerful built-in analytical tools, including least-squares polynomial fits, fourier least-squares fits, and simple-moving average.

Although the intended source of historical data is daily downloads, there are archives of data available on the Internet which can be used to add to your historical data collection. Market Analyzer comes complete with several data files including the DJIA historical quotes by day since 1901. The program is preset to certain useful sites, and you can configure it to any site.
